For as long and I can remember, fashion and style have been my outlet for creativity and expression. I am a multi-hyphenate woman of God with many passions that enjoys the visual art of storytelling.
I find joy in curating moments for both men and women to look and feel their best whether it be in real life or reel life. I've been fortunate enough to build a career that allows me to utilize my gift of finding the beauty in every moment.
My love for fashion was born in the early 90's. I remember the excitement of watching my mommy and daddy get dressed as if the world were their runway. Wanting to partake in the fashion quests, I vividly, remember rocking my dad's Karl Kani t-shirts back in the 4th grade. My mother, a skilled sewist and creative, used to sew her entire wardrobe each Summer while she was in high school so she, without a doubt, passed those gems along. She taught me how to sew while I, too, was in high school and my love for fashion grew exponentially into sewing my prom dresses junior and senior year all while building a massive magazine collection filled with the likes of InStyle, Vibe, Vogue, Right On...you name it. I wanted to soak up all there was to know about culture, fashion, and the arts. In college as a member of the Epsilon Iota Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., one of my fondest creative memories was designing & sewing step show costumes for our chapter during the centennial year.
After graduating with a business degree, I ventured along the route of building my knowledge in pattern drafting, fabric manipulation and draping. Learning various construction techniques, properties of fabrics, color theory, etc. over the years have forged even more of an appreciation for the art of style and design.
Those interests then transitioned into a namesake clothing line in which I'm so proud of especially having shown at New York Fashion Week, brand collaborations, opportunities in film & television that began at Tyler Perry Studios, styling for the red carpet, as well as hand-made designs for the Emmy's, film premiers and a blossoming career in costume design.
With over 20 years of experience, it still feels as though this is just the beginning of what God has in store for my creative career.
Time with God, experiencing His love, grace, and mercy while keeping Him at the center of my life brings me so much peace and joy. Family nourishes me, teaching women how to sew & utilize their gifts fulfills me, sharing vegan recipes delights me and content creation excites me.
Here you'll find a sprinkle of color, a dash of my passions with a splash of my interests. Just sharing a bit of my journey.
Thank you for being here!
XOXO ~ Joni
